From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Planners groups.
