2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Follows Poor Response

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Key Hires

This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full text from Ismailer's announcement:

Team—

I understand you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to continue.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our fans.

The trust in this project grows every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and background in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in greeting Ben next week. We are all excited to persist observing the development of the game in the weeks to come.

The President
